We can trace the origin of Sony to the World War II. In 1946, a Japanese man by the name, Masaru Ibuka started an electronics shop in Tokyo with just 8 employees at that time. Later that year, there was a merge between Ibuka’s electronics shop and Akio Morita’s Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo. The company they came together to create was later called Type-G but in 1958, it was changed to Sony.
