Bezos was born on the 12th of January, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the United States as Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen. His father’s name was Ted Jorgensen, a shop bike owner while his mother was Jacklyn Bezos, a single mum who had him at the age of 17.
His parents divorced and his mum had full custody over him by the time she married Mike Bezos in 1968 who later adopted Jeffrey thus he got the last name, Bezos. He later attended River Oaks Elementary School in Houston, Texas before the whole family moved to Florida. In Miami, Florida, Bezos attended Miami Palmetto High School.
In 1986, Jeff Bezos graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree (B.S.E.) in electrical engineering and computer science.
Upon his graduation, Bezos got job offers from companies such as Intel and more. He later to decided to work at a Fintech startup, Fitel before he then transitioned into the banking industry by becoming the product manager at Bankers Trust. After his two (2) years stint at Bankers Trust, he joined D. E. Shaw & Co, until 1994.
The idea for an online bookstore, which laid the foundation for Amazon began in 1993 while working for D.E Shaw before he eventually resigned and took action. He got an initial investment of $300,000 as financial support from his parents. Three years later after launching, Amazon, he took the company public via an IPO (Initial Public Offering).
On September 2000, he founded a company that would fulfill his desire to go to space, which is Blue Origin. The company has grown and every year since 2016, Bezos would sell $1 billion of his Amazon stocks to support Blue Origin financially.
