Andrew Jassy was born on January 13th, 1968 in Scarsdale, New York, United States. Although, American by birth, he has Hungarian ancestry and his family was a Jewish one.
He attended Scarsdale High School before proceeding to Harvard University to get a degree in government. Jassy later enrolled at Harvard Business School to obtain his Masters in Business Administration (MBA).
After his graduation from Harvard Business School, he worked at a company called Danbury Mint as a project manager. He later left the company and decided to start his own company alongside a colleague from Danbury Mint but the company failed.
It wasn’t until 1993 he joined Amazon Inc. as an employee. By 2003, he and Jeff Bezos had the idea of starting a cloud computing subsidiary which is now known as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
In 1997, he met Elana Rochelle Caplan, a fashion designer who later became his wife.
He and Bezos launched AWS, in 2006 with Jassy heading its 57-member team. The idea of starting this subsidiary is credited to Jassy.
In 2016, he was promoted from senior vice president of AWS to CEO and so far, this has been the most profitable branch of Amazon representing most of the company’s revenue. That same year in March precisely, he was named Person of the Year by the Financial Times.
On July 5, 2021, he would step in as Amazon’s new Chief Executive Officer.
